Members of the Module participated in the event led by UNIE University and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) when they established a framework cooperation agreement. The signing of the agreement was carried out by the President of the IACHR, Judge Nancy Hernández López, and the Rector of UNIE, Segundo Píriz Durán, in the presence of the General Secretary of the educational institution, María José Molina.
This strategic alliance primarily aims to strengthen the system for the protection of Human Rights in the American continent. To achieve this, it will promote and disseminate the fundamental instruments of the Inter-American system. Both institutions will collaborate to optimize the application and dissemination of the international frameworks governing human rights, in addition to undertaking joint research projects on topics of mutual interest.
Following the signing of the agreement, the campus at Arapiles, 14 hosted an academic seminar titled "New Standards in the Jurisprudence of the Inter-American System." During her speech, Judge Nancy Hernández emphasized that collaboration with academic centers enriches the Court's jurisprudence and performs a crucial task, underlining that the university is the space where critical thinking is generated and projected into the future.
For his part, the Rector of UNIE highlighted the fundamental role of the Inter-American Court in the defense of Human Rights. He stressed that the IACHR's jurisprudence has not only strengthened democracy but also constitutes a valuable source of research for faculty in Spain.
The event continued with a round table moderated by Harold Bertot, Director of the Bachelor's Degree in International Relations at UNIE, which featured the participation of Judge Hernández and was enriched by the contribution of Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor, Judge and Doctor of Law from the University of Navarra. This enriching seminar laid the groundwork for future links between students and academics, opening pathways in research, specialized teaching, and international cooperation. This initiative will serve as a valuable cultural and academic contribution, fostering a better understanding of human rights in both regions and establishing the basis for bidirectional international mobility programs.
