Welcome to the Jean Monnet Blog

The Jean Monnet Blog is dedicated to sharing relevant information about the Jean Monnet Module titled "Rule of law, democracy and human rights as elements of cohesion and survival of the European Union: areas of action and improvement" (RDH). This module was granted under the call: ERASMUS-JMO-2025-HEI-TCH-RSCH, submitted on February 12, 2025, and falls under the theme ERASMUS-JMO-2025-MODULE - Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education. It has a duration of 36 months. Here you will find related activities and events, as well as interesting news and articles.

The primary objective of the Module is to provide detailed and up-to-date information on the Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights as elements of cohesion and survival for the European Union, as well as to identify areas for action and improvement. It is essential to raise awareness about the importance of the Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights as core values, principles, and areas of action to strengthen the European Union as a space for integration, in accordance with its founding Treaties. Identifying areas for action and improvement in these three key areas of the European Union is crucial for fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to these values in the face of growing challenges and risks that threaten the progress of European integration across the continent. This objective will be achieved through the participation of various universities, institutes, and research centers from Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Poland, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia. The involvement of multiple countries will enable a much deeper and more detailed approach to the visions and perspectives of various regions across the European continent on how to plan and implement actions to consolidate the European Union based on strengthening the Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights.

Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the module will target a broad audience within European civil society, primarily students, legal professionals, and diplomatic and consular officials. The project consists of a training course and two annual seminars, which will examine the political and legal foundations of the Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights from the perspective of policies implemented by the European Union and based on its underlying values and principles. Progress within the European Union in each of these areas will be examined, along with the action plans that have been adopted and those that should be adopted. The course and seminars will serve to share and discuss the research findings of the module members. The organization of these activities will be linked to a specialized blog focusing on Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights issues, featuring peer-reviewed contributions and aiming for wide dissemination within academic and civil society circles. The goal of this blog is to reach a broad audience across European society, addressing the importance of the values and principles of democracy and human rights in the European Union. This module will bring together high-level experts in Law and International Relations from 8 university institutions and research centers across Europe. The Module is organized to carry out outreach activities about the European Union to promote understanding of how the values and principles underpinning this integration scheme essentially rest on respect for the Rule of Law, democracy, and human rights.
