Prominent scholars and legal experts from across the globe will convene on April 10, 2025, at UNIE University in Madrid for a groundbreaking international seminar titled "Are Europe and America the World Leaders for Human Rights Protection and Sustainability? Contributions of the International Regions to Human Rights and Sustainable Development."
The seminar, organized by the Effective Justice Platform of Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland), the Research Center for Ibero-American Studies at Rey Juan Carlos University, and the "Francisco de Vitoria" Institute of International and European Studies at Carlos III University, will feature two main roundtable discussions.
The first session, "Protection of Human Rights and Sustainability at the National and European Regional Level," will bring together experts from Spain, Poland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, and India. The second roundtable, "Protection of Human Rights and Sustainability at the American and Iberoamerican Level," will include notable participants such as Prof. Carlos R. Fernández Liesa, member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee, and Prof. Victor Rodríguez Cedeño, former vice-president of the UN's International Law Commission.
Seminar co-directors Prof. Elena C. Díaz Galán and Prof. Harold Bertot Triana stated: "This seminar represents a crucial opportunity to critically examine the evolving landscape of human rights protection and sustainable development across different regions. We aim to foster a meaningful dialogue that moves beyond traditional perspectives."
The event will begin with an inauguration ceremony featuring Prof. David de Mattas Batalla, Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalisation at UNIE, along with faculty deans from Moroccan universities and Prof. Barbara Janusz-Pohl, Leader of the Effective Justice Project.
The seminar is organized within the framework of the UNIE Project on Human Rights, Business, and Sustainability and the High-Performance Research Group on Freedom, Security, and Citizenship in the International Order at Rey Juan Carlos University.
