Module Members Participate in International Seminar on Moroccan-Spanish Cooperation

Madrid, Spain – November 28, 2023 – Members of the Jean Monnet Module took an active part in the International Seminar "Moroccan-Spanish Cooperation: Dimensions of Mutual Collaboration," held on November 28, 2023, at the Universidad Internacional de la Empresa (UNIE).

The seminar was organized by UNIE in collaboration with the Center for Ibero-American Studies (CEIB) of Rey Juan Carlos University. The event provided a significant platform for analyzing the various dimensions of the strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain, bringing together experts and academics to discuss areas of mutual interest and collaboration.

Event Details and Opening

The seminar took place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Sala de Vistas (Room 203) at UNIE's campus on Calle Arapiles 14 in Madrid. The opening session featured welcoming remarks from Luana Gava, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Communication at UNIE, and Toufik Essaid, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tangier.

Presentation Sessions

The academic session, moderated by Miriam Martínez Pérez, Director of the Law Program at UNIE, included a series of presentations from distinguished scholars:

  • Toufik Essaid, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, opened the presentations with an analysis of how "The legitimacy of elected institutions will contribute to the consolidation and development of Moroccan-Spanish relations."

  • Harold Bertot Triana, Professor of Public International Law at UNIE and Head of the Jean Monnet Module, presented reflections on "Morocco and Spain in the current international scene."

  • Cástor M. Díaz Barrado, Professor of International Law at Rey Juan Carlos University, examined "The framework of cultural relations between Spain and Morocco."

  • Hamid Aboulas, Professor of Public Law at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, discussed the "Fundamental lines of Moroccan-Spanish cooperation and the seriousness and credibility of the autonomy statute for the Moroccan Sahara region."

  • Sagrario Morán Blanco, Professor of International Relations at Rey Juan Carlos University, analyzed "Energy cooperation between Spain and Morocco."

  • Mehdir Sersar, Professor of International Law at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, explored "The role of Morocco in the security dimension in the Sahel and the Mediterranean."

  • Sarra Sefrioui, Professor of International Law, addressed "The role of Morocco in stopping illegal migration and threats to the stability of the Sahel and Mediterranean region."

  • Shaibata Mrabihrabou, a researcher in economics and development at the Doctoral Center of Ibn Tofail University in Agadir, presented on "Available and potential investment opportunities in the southern provinces of Morocco."

The participation of the Module members in this international forum underscores their ongoing commitment to fostering academic dialogue and research on crucial international relationships, particularly within the Euro-Mediterranean context. The seminar successfully provided a comprehensive overview of the multifaceted cooperation between Morocco and Spain, covering political, cultural, economic, and security dimensions.
